Your pre-pickup checklist
Remove security access items
Start with anything that opens a home, building, gate, storage unit, or workplace. Pull the garage-door remote from the visor or console. Remove spare house keys, office keys, mailbox keys, gate fobs, and access cards. Check the key ring too. If a key or remote is not meant to go with the vehicle, take it now before you get distracted.
Stop billable devices
Remove the toll transponder from the windshield, dash, or license frame. Then log in to the toll account and remove this vehicle from the account so future tolls do not post to you. Pull parking permits, hang tags, neighborhood stickers, campus decals, and disability placards. Keep any prepaid or account-linked items with your records, not in the car.
Pull glovebox documents
Open the glovebox, door pockets, console, and visor sleeves. Remove the insurance card, registration, repair invoices, warranty papers, medical forms, school pickup cards, receipts, and any document with your name, address, phone number, account number, or signature. Keep donation paperwork together in a separate folder so the title does not get mixed in with papers you are removing.
Sweep cabin and trunk
Work front to back. Check under both front seats, between cushions, seat-back pockets, cup holders, door bins, visors, the center console, and the rear floor. Then check the trunk, cargo side panels, hidden compartments, and spare-tire well. Remove sunglasses, tools, cash, chargers, prescription items, work badges, garage receipts, personal photos, and anything you would not want to lose.
Factory-reset vehicle data
Turn the vehicle on long enough to clear saved data if it is safe to do so. Use the infotainment menu to delete Bluetooth pairings, call history, contacts, navigation favorites, saved home address, garage-door HomeLink buttons, Wi-Fi settings, and connected app profiles. If there is a full factory reset option, use it. If not, delete each saved item manually.
Remove optional add-ons
Take aftermarket items you plan to keep, such as dash cams, removable GPS units, upgraded speakers that are not built in, phone mounts, emergency kits, and child seats. Do not strip parts, remove required equipment, or change the vehicle from how you described it to Gulf Wheels. If an item is attached in a way that would damage the car, leave it in place.
Leave pickup items
Put the keys with the car, including any fobs or valet keys you are donating. Leave the signed-over title with the car too. If your title shows two owners, a lien, or wording you do not understand, state rules can differ: some require every listed owner to sign, while others allow one owner when names are joined by the word or. Confirm with the Florida DMV before pickup rather than guessing.
Do not solve everything here
This checklist is only for the sweep before the vehicle leaves. It is not the place to sort every tag, ownership-reporting, or tax-record question. Common questions
Should I remove my toll transponder before donating?
Yes. Take the transponder out of the vehicle and remove the vehicle from your toll account. The physical tag and the online account both matter. If you only remove the tag but leave the vehicle listed, account charges or notices may still be routed to you.
What if I forget something in the car?
Contact Gulf Wheels as soon as you notice. Retrieval may not be possible once the vehicle has moved through the donation process, so do the sweep before the tow truck leaves. Focus on small items first: IDs, cards, keys, toll tags, documents, electronics, and prescription items.
Can I take out a dash cam or upgraded stereo?
You may remove aftermarket items you own if doing so does not damage the vehicle or change it from the condition you described. Dash cams, removable GPS units, phone mounts, and child seats are common removals. Built-in safety equipment and basic vehicle parts should stay with the car.
